More True Detective Season 2 Details Emerge

Since the moment the last of the credits finished rolling on the final episode of the excellent first season of True Detective, speculation has been rife – both real and humorous – as to what exactly will occur in the show’s second season, and who will be in it. Show creator Nic Pizzolatto has been extremely fastidious in his “I ain’t telling you shit“-ness. But even he knows the value of the drip-feed. So now, following an appearance on a public radio show in Wisconsin called To The Best of our Knowledge, we’ve got a few new details to read far too much into.

Pizzolatto stated on the show, in regards to season 2, “Right now, we’re working with three leads. It takes place in California. Not Los Angeles, but some of the lesser known venues of California and we’re going to try to capture a certain psychosphere ambience of the place, much like we did with season one. The characters are all new, but I am deeply in love with all of them,” which remains vaguely in line with his previous assessment of the second season; that being it’s about “hard women, bad men, and the secret occult history of the United States transportation system.
Nothing is known of casting yet, beyond the usual swirling rumour mill. However we do know that Jessica Chastain has been ruled out. Unofficial character breakdowns that have been bouncing around the internet claim that the tri-lead setup will involve a 40-something male cop, in the mould of a Joaquin Phoenix/Christian Bale/Josh Brolin-type, a 20-something male cop, and a 30-something female cop.
True Detective season 2 will premiere on HBO at some point in the future, and will probably melt your brains.
