True Detective Season 2 Now Has Four Main Characters

Let’s keep the ole’ rumour mill a-crankin’, lest the darned thing rust up. The drip-feeding of information surrounding the follow-up season to HBO‘s excellent True Detective continues to come through. A while back we learned that the second season was more than likely going to feature three lead characters. Now it would appear that things have been increasing in scale on the production.

Series showrunner Nic Pizzolatto confirmed that new series, which will be set in California, has ballooned out and will now include four – count ’em – FOUR centric roles, around which the season will revolve. Though he declined to confirm if any will be women – when prodded, his response was “You’ll have to wait and see” – the last word from the world of casting was that three of the roles would involve a 40-something male, a 20-something male, and a 30-something female – all cops.
And speaking of casting, we might not have to wait much longer before we find out who the show has pegged to star in the new season. HBO programming president Michael Lombardo stated that The first two scripts for Season 2 of True Detective are even more exciting than the ones for the first season, and some castings will likely be announced in the next week.”
(EDITOR’S SIDE-THOUGHT: Just once I kinda wish the knowledge you get about season quality with hindsight could be known beforehand. So then leading up to the start of a new season someone promoting the show would be all like “Well, look. This season’s a bit of a slog, we’ll admit. It doesn’t move super quickly. But if you stick it out, shit gets pretty wild in the last 3 episodes, and then it sets things up for an absolutely cracking season three.“)
So until next week when the casting is announced and we know for absolute sure, let the wild True Detective Season 2 speculation continue! My latest pick?
