Noah Cyrus may only be 15 years old, but she’s already the star of a PETA campaign against the dissection of animals in classrooms.
In the campaign image, Noah is photographed lying on a silver table surrounded by bloody surgical tools. She’s green in colour, and she looks rather dead. Oh, and she’s also cut open right down the middle of her torso, so her ribcage and guts and gross bits are showing.
The caption on the ad reads, “I Am Not a Classroom Experiment. Neither Are Cats, Frogs, Rats, Pigs, or Other Animals Killed for Dissection. #DissectionKills.”
Pretty heavy material for a 15 year old, but Noah doesn’t seem phased. She said: “Because I love all animals so much, people should realise they don’t have to cut into something to learn about it. You should ask your teacher for other humane alternatives … You’ll learn so much more off of the computer. If you have the other option, why not take it?”
A spokesperson for PETA agreed with Noah’s wise words, “Studies have repeatedly shown that virtual dissection is more effective in teaching biology than cutting up dead animals.”
Noah also spoke about how weird it was shooting such a unique campaign, and her empathy for animals that had been killed just to be dissected. “It kind of was weird being on the table, and the feeling of being about to be cut open. The thought of that happening to an animal would be terrible”, she said.
Aw. 15 year olds are so grown up these days.
