If you’re battling a hangover from Christmas Eve, spare a thought for Real Housewives of New York star Luann De Lesseps, who got so ridiculously sozzled that she ended up in the slammer.
De Lesseps, or The Countess, as she is known on the show, was hauled off to Florida‘s Palm Beach County jail in the early hours of Xmas Eve (US time) after causing quite the scene on a night out.
The Palm Beach Post reports that De Lesseps, 52, is facing felony charges (i.e. the serious kind, not your slightly less weighty misdemeanour charges) after a getting way too sozzled and kicking “at least one police officer”.
According to the outlet, the Real Housewife also screamed at police and onlookers: “I’m going to kill you all.”
Yikes.
De Lesseps was charged with battery on an officer, disorderly intoxication, resisting arrest with violence, and crimes against a person, with an assistant state’s attorney telling the Palm Beach Post that she is facing felonies for several of those charges.
In the US, a felony is a serious crime that often comes with a hefty fine and jail time of over one year.
De Lesseps split from her husband Tom D’Agostino Jr in August after tying the knot in Palm Beach back in December 2016. In a statement to Page Six, she blamed her drunken meltdown on her stressful divorce.
This was my first time in Palm Beach since my wedding, and being here brought up long-buried emotions. I want to offer my sincere apologies to anyone I might have offended with my behaviour.
The reality star added that she is “committed to a transformative and hopeful 2018”. She was released on her own recognisance and will face court again on January 25.
