Lotto Winner Shows Up To Collect His Giant Cheque Wearing A ‘Scream’ Mask

A lottery winner in Jamaica has turned up to collect his winnings after a long delay donning the famous mask from the movie Scream to conceal his identity. Quite simply: we stan a shy king.

Behold:

The guy, who is identified only as A. Campbell, claimed his $1.6M prize ($158 million in Jamaican dollars) a full 54 days after he won the draw. According to an interview he gave with the Jamaica Star, he said that the delay was mostly due to feeling stressed.

I looked at my ticket and ran into my bathroom and said ‘I won! I won! From the day I found out that I won, I’ve been sick. My head hurt me for three days because I was thinking so much — if what I’ve been longing for really come true. I had a belly ache for two weeks. Sometimes I feel so much pain I forgot that I won.

“I just wanted to get myself together before I came forward,” he went on to say. And look, it seems like he has absolutely got himself together. Look at the state of this:

Wearing a mask to collect lottery winnings in Jamaica is not unprecedented. Another article in the Star points out that it is reasonably common due to fears over crime. Simone Clarke-Cooper, a spokesperson for Supreme Ventures Limited, said that winners want to protect themselves.

“Unfortunately, Jamaica is not like other markets,” she told the Star. “In other markets, they don’t necessarily do it, but here I think they opt to do it to keep themselves safe. We are not going to tell them not to do that because their safety is of paramount importance to us as well.”

It’s not just limited to Jamaica – many big prize winners across the globe take precautions to keep their identity secret, given that claiming a big check on TV is really just a way of saying, “Hey, I have a shitload of money! Rob me if you must!”  A US man went as far as concealing his own face with his giant Powerball cheque, which is an absolute power move.

Anyway: enjoy your winnings king. Excellent mask selection.
