LA City Hall Threw The Bat Signal Up One Last Time In Honour Of Adam West

The passing of hugely beloved actor Adam West has sparked an outpouring of emotion from fans.

In response, fans, friends, and colleagues of the original TV Batman have shared their memories on social media. But today the city of Los Angeles put forward a much more physical tribute.
The Los Angeles City Hall held a public memorial for West, the Bright Knight, and paid tribute to him by lighting up the building’s iconic tower with the even-more iconic Bat Signal for one last night.
The signal, featuring West’s trademark 60’s-style Batman logo, was also accompanied by West’s trademark red Bat Phone, which sat on a podium in front of a throng of fans.

LA Mayor Eric Garcetti and LAPD Chief Charlie Beck threw the signal on just after 9:00pm local time (around 2pm here in Australia), shining the signal bright and large across the building’s tower as fans applauded below.

Fans in their thousands showed up for the ceremony, many of whom arrived in full cosplay as various characters from the Batman universe.

Prior to flicking the switch Police Chief Beck noted that in his work he often wishes he could turn on a Bat Signal. But that, at least for tonight, “I get to.

Ahh man. An extremely fitting tribute for an absolute icon.
(Mayor) Adam West, rest in peace.
