Just try to hold on to something until the shaking stops. Fox has ordered a full series of the Batman-prequel Gotham, centring on the infamous Gotham City before Bruce Wayne learned the ways of the bat.
The series focuses on a Gotham that’s rumbling headlong towards total societal collapse. Lawlessness abounds. Crime is on the rise. And they’re still about 15 years away from seeing their first Bat Signal.
Ben McKenzie takes the lead in the series as a young Gotham City PD Homicide Detective named James Gordon. You might have heard of him. Alongside him is Sean Pertwee as tough-as-bootleather former Mi6 agent from the mean streets of East London, Alfred Pennyworth. SHIT YEAH.
The series will also feature various characters from the Batman universe in their primordial stages, including Oswald Cobblepot (the future Penguin), a young Selina Kyle, the brilliant forensic scientist Edward Nygma, and the girl who will one day grow up to be botanist Dr. Pamela Lilian Isley.

Gotham will premiere in the US on Fox at some point this coming American autumn.
