Just In Time For Schoolies: A New 10K Fine For Boozing Up Underage Mates

Western Australia, listen up: as of next Friday, if you get caught letting your underage mates take a spin of Goon of Fortune without their folk’s express permish, the only prize you could be collecting is a $10k fine.

That’s because WA has become the latest state to slap on “secondary supply” laws, which ban adults from supplying their youngling buds with booze at home – unless their parents are cool with your unabashed bevvy-peddling.

Bear with us, but the timing of the announcement seems slightly too convenient to be a coincidence; the laws kick in on November 20, only three days before the state’s official schoolies/leaver’s celebration.

Minister Colin Holt’s announcement channelled some serious Spider-Man/Uncle Ben vibes too, telling those on the cusp of adulthood “turning 18 entitles a person to a number of rights and privileges but also comes with increased responsibility.”
The new law’s introduction means South Australia and the ACT are the sole hold-outs from enforcing secondary supply regulations. If you’re living there though, it’s still probably not a grand idea to let your Year 8 mates sink bulk tins.
