Here’s Your First Look At Mariah Carey In Her Beautifully Tragic Xmas Movie

Sure, she’s dating James Packer – something none of us will ever understand – and yes, she has a confusing addiction to velour tracksuits, but Mariah Carey will forever be ~iconic~.
Hence the world rejoiced when it was announced she’d be directing, and starring in, a specially-commissioned Hallmark Christmas movie called ‘Melody & Mistletoe’, to air on December 18.
Not much else was known about the movie at the time, other than Mariah would play a music teacher who helps some student write a festive song that’s obviously going to be 1995’s ‘All I Want For Christmas’, but today we get our first look – and it’s both worse and better than we could have ever imagined.

The title has changed to ‘A Christmas Melody’, because alliteration would have tipped the movie over into cliché territory, and it also stars Gretchen Weiners Lacey Chabert as the single mum mum of the young girl who MC schools in the art of chanteuse-ery while wearing pearls and an Adidas tracksuit.

The official plot is as follows:
“An inspiring story about a single mother moving back to her hometown to start life anew with her young daughter. When the young girl has a hard time adjusting, she seeks out the help of her music teacher to write a song that she will sing at the annual Christmas Variety Show. Along the way, a relationship sparks between mother and teacher.”
Watch and rejoice:

It’s so much more than we could have hoped.
