Mariah Carey Is Being Sued For $1.64M By Her Sister For ‘Vindictive’ Humiliation In Her Memoir

Mariah Carey Alison Carey Lawsuit

Mariah Carey‘s sister Alison Carey has filed a $1.25m (AUD $1.64m) lawsuit against the singer. Alison claims that her sister has been “intentionally causing her immense emotional distress” with words written about her throughout Mariah’s 2020 memoir.

The complaint was filed to the New York Supreme court on Monday, and specifically refers to Mariah Carey’s 2020 memoir The Meaning Of Mariah Carey.

Alison claims that with her words, Mariah has caused her “heartless, vicious, vindictive, despicable and totally unnecessary public humiliation.” According to her, the chapter titled ‘Dandelion Tea’ contains multiple accusations about the relationship that she has with Mariah, and also makes claims about actions that Alison is disputing.

According to Alison, the chapter accuses her of throwing boiling hot tea on Mariah when they were younger, and giving her third-degree burns. It also claims that Alison gave Mariah Valium at the age of 12 and attempted to sell her to pimps for money.

“When I was 12 years old, my sister drugged me with Valium, offered me a pinky nail full of cocaine, inflicted me with third-degree burns, and tried to sell me out to a pimp,” Mariah wrote in her memoir.

“Something in me was arrested by all that trauma. That is why I often say, ‘I’m eternally 12.’ I am still struggling through that time.”

Alison claims in her lawsuit that these statements are untrue, have been incredibly hurtful to her wellbeing, and that the book has “presented no evidence to substantiate these serious allegations.”

“Defendant (Mariah Carey) used her status as a public figure to attack her penniless sister, generating sensational headlines describing her lurid claims to promote sales of her book,” read the court documents.

“Defendant’s cruel and outrageous allegations have devastated the plaintiff (Alison Carey). Already struggling with the unspeakable trauma of her childhood and having her own children abandon her, she has become severely depressed and uncharacteristically tearful since the publication of defendant’s book and now struggles, after a long time clean, with alcohol abuse.”

Alison Carey will be representing herself in court.

Mariah Carey has not yet commented on the lawsuit, but given the fact that she called their relationship “scorched earth” within her memoir, things won’t go down easily.
