‘Fargo’ Adds Carrie Coon From ‘Gone Girl’ To Its Mysterious S3 Cast

Before it premiered, you certainly wouldn’t have picked ‘Fargo‘ to be far and away the more impressive of the contained-season dramas on TV, not least when ‘True Detective‘ season one was running roughshod over everything.
But Noah Hawley‘s frankly outstanding TV “adaptation” of the Coen Brothers‘ classic film has exceeded all expectations, and grown into one of the most gripping, visually stunning, and well-rounded series currently on the air.
And a large part of the success of the show’s two seasons thus far has come down to its deft and often brilliant casting decisions. Where ‘True Detective‘ stumbled in S2 by trying to hide a weak plot with a stacked cast, ‘Fargo‘ succeeded in spades by not chasing megastars, and instead relying on proven and reliable actors who fit their roles to a tee.
Whilst Hawley and FX are being typically tight-lipped about the details of the upcoming third season of the show, we are starting to get an idea as to who will be in the new cast.
Previously we learned that Ewan McGregor would be pulling double duty in the new season, playing lookalike brothers (not twins) in Emmit and Ray Stussy, one of whom (Emmit) is reportedly the “parking lot king of Minnesota,” which is an outstanding character role.
Now we also know that the series will again feature a strong female law enforcement lead. Carrie Coon, who some of you might remember from HBO series ‘The Leftovers‘ or from her role in ‘Gone Girl,’ has signed on to fill the primary female role in the season.
Coon will reportedly fill the role of Gloria Burgle, the chief of the Eden Valley police force. Burgle, a newly divorced mother, is described as “a practical woman who grabs the fire extinguisher when the bacon catches fire and everyone else panics,” who is “struggling to understand this new world around her where people connect more intimately with their phones than the people right in front of them,” which is a Hall of Fame-candidate character description.
Not a lot of plot details are known at this time, though unlike season two, the third season will be set in 2010, meaning there is the possibility for crossover with characters from season one.
Either way, more Fargo is clearly a good thing.
The third season is scheduled to begin filming later in the year, with new episodes hitting the screen at some point in 2017.
