Aces! FX Renews The Wholly Brilliant “Fargo” For A Third Season

For the love of god, if you haven’t been watching Fargo, rectify that *immediately*.

Whilst the first season of the self-contained series was singularly brilliant in and of itself, somehow the second season managed to dodge the dreaded True Detective-syndrome, and has thus far miraculously been even better.
The series, loosely based on the highly celebrated and much-beloved 1996 Coen Brothers film of the same name, garnered widespread critical acclaim in its own right for season one – earning 18 Emmy Award nominations for three wins.
And thus far season two – which enters the back half of its run this week – has become easily one of the best reviewed TV shows of 2015.
The reception has been so great, in fact, that US broadcasting company FX has gone ahead and renewed the series for a third season. The network’s President of Programming Eric Schrier issued a statement confirming the show’s renewal earlier today.

Year two of Fargo is an extraordinary achievement and, given Noah Hawley’s masterful storytelling, we can’t wait to see where the third, all-new version of Fargo takes us.”

“Our thanks to Noah, Warren, Joel and Ethan, John and our partners at MGM Television for making Fargo such a memorable and rewarding journey.”

Show creator Noah Hawley is a man in high demand at FX, with the writer also attached to bring the Kurt Vonnegut novel Cat’s Cradle to a limited-run series, as well as developing a pilot based on Marvel comic Legion.

Given the self-contained seasonal structure of the show, it’s likely that Fargo‘s third season will again take us to another place within the established universe, following season one’s setting of Bemidji and Duluth, Minnesota in 2006, and season two’s setting of Luverne, Fargo, and Sioux Falls back in 1979.
Where it goes is anyone’s guess at this stage. But one thing’s for absolute certain…
You can catch series two of Fargo locally on SBS2, Wednesdays at 9:30pm.
