David Letterman’s Tribute To Robin Williams Is Beautiful, Heartbreaking

A week ago today we lost arguably one of the funniest men in the world in Robin Williams – a man whose comedy provided the backbone for many of our upbringings, and whose laughter and antics and ability are so intrinsically linked to only things that are good in our memories.

And since that tremendously sad day, the entertainment world has launched a seemingly endless torrent of tributes, grief, sympathy and everything in between – with just about everyone even remotely famous recounting personal stories of encounters with Robin, and his enormous capacity for humility and generosity.
Other than perhaps Norm Macdonald‘s impeccably worded series of tweets, this tribute video from David Letterman – a long-time contemporary and friend of Williams – is perhaps the most touching and inherently personal of all the celebrity tributes.
Letterman and Williams’ careers exist more or less in parallel, with the pair coming up as stand-up comedians at around the same time. And throughout Letterman’s subsequent decades as a late night talk show host, Robin Williams was a guest on his show over 50 times.

I managed to hold it *just* hold it together until the montage at the end, and then I lost it all over again.
We ain’t never had a friend like he.
