FYI: Cats Can Get Acne Because They’re Literally Emotional Teenagers

Because cats are basically bitchy humans in furry little bodies, it makes sense that – just like us – they get skin ailments. Yep, the latest thing the internet is discovering makes our feline friends #justlikeus is that they too suffer from annoying shit like acne.

Feline acne usually appears on cats around their mouth and chin area, according to vet Heather Peikes from All Paws Dermatology and Allergy, who spoke to Refinery29 on the matter.

“Acne can affect cats of any age or breed or gender,” she explains. So it’s not just your teen-years kitty that’s potentially going to be affected.

It can look like anything from a tiny lil’ pimple (cuuuute):

To full-blown breakouts (bit terrifying, poor lil guys):

According to Heather, breakouts are usually caused by poor exfoliation, stress, viruses, poor grooming, or their water bowls – so keeping your cats water and food bowls clean and fresh is the first step to preventing or healing up a breakout. If that doesn’t work, there are literally pet-friendly medicated wipes for cat pimples, so hit up your vet.

Just as an FYI, dogs do not get acne because they are pure and perfect and have holy souls. As much as I do actually enjoy cats (I do, seriously) we should all agree that they are assholes. Humans are assholes too so it’s okay.
