Around the time their RTJ2 album was released, Run The Jewels joked that they would make a new version of the record using nothing but cat sounds if somebody slung them $40,000.
A fan who rightly thought that a cat-themed hip hop album would be insane went ahead and started a Kickstarter, which was funded almost immediately, meaning Killer Mike and El-P had no choice but to come good on their word.
Overnight, El-P took to Instagram to post the first snippets of the sure-to-be existential nightmare that is Meow The Jewels, captioned with “oh my god what am I doing with my life”.
The internet’s favourite cat Lil’ Bub is also involved, which means shit’s about to get real.

Here are the guys a few months ago, auditioning cats for the project:
Zola Jesus, Just Blaze, Baauer, Geoff Barrow, The Alchemist, Boots and Dan the Automator have all helped out with the project, while portions of the proceeds will go to the families of Eric Garner and Mike Brown.
