Brace Yourselves Australia, ‘Cos The Weekend’s Temps Will Shrivel Your Bits

No, you’re not dreaming it: it really is bloody cold in eastern Australia, and it’s only going to get colder.

A pretty hefty high-pressure system rolling in from the South Australian coast will cause temperatures to bottom out this weekend across much of Victoria, New South Wales, Tasmania, and the ACT.

As it stands, Melbourne can expect a low of just 3° on Saturday, and a high of 14°. Temperatures will largely remain the same on Sunday.

Sydney is going to be a little chilly too, with the Bureau of Meteorology projecting lows of 7° across the weekend. Adelaide won’t be spared, either: lows of 4° and 5° are forecast.

Things get a little more serious away from those cities, though. Broad swathes of inland VIC and NSW will be covered in frost, and woe betide poor Canberra, where temperatures are pegged to plunge to -5° and -6°.

Because this is all some kind of cosmic joke, the low temperatures will likely do sweet FA in terms of significant snowfall at Australia’s main skiing regions, meaning the start of this season will remain pretty damn poor. Sorry, pals.
You, most probably.

Hobart is set to cop it, too. The Tassie capital will barely crack the positives this Saturday and Sunday, with lows of 1° and 2° predicted.
A little further away, and Launceston is set to absolutely freeze: crack out the emergency beanies, because it’s falling to -3° on Friday and Saturday.
In these trying times, we recommend reading one of these pieces from last year, where we opined about just how fucking hot it was. To be honest, we’re not sure those pieces aren’t from some sunny alternate universe, either.
