The old, weathered Big Brother house in the bushland next to Dreamworld has certainly returned to our awareness this week, what with that mildly-depressing video of the whole abandoned lot being posted on YouTube, reminding us just how much the whole space is probably extremely haunted by the ghost of heavily-filmed drunk pashes gone by.

Now simply because nothing is sacred and we can’t let an abandoned reality tv lot be eroded away by the hands of time, footage has appeared of a fire burning at what looks to be the old BB house. Noooooooo.
PEDESTRIAN.TV contacted Dreamworld about the situation, who told me that they don’t actually own the property where the Big Brother House stands, and that it’s actually on property adjacent to the Dreamworld lot. Which I guess makes sense and explains why the place is still there, despite being practically bashed in by vandals and ~intruders~.
The fire definitely happened though, with Queensland Fire & Emergency Services telling us that two crews were sent out to the overgrown space after a call came in just after 2pm on Sunday. They assured me that the fire was under control by 2.40pm, and was declared completely extinguished by 3.10pm.
QLD Firies report that the blaze was external to the house and affected vegetation nearby, so it’s more likely the case that a bit of scrub right near the BB house caught fire, and not the rundown house itself. PHEW.
QLD Fire services also said that police services were not called to the scene, so as far as they know the incident is not being treated as suspicious.
Don’t you dare touch my beloved diary room, ok people? Let nature take its course over this place, it’s what Gretel Killeen would want.
Oh and just for kicks, the original footage of the fire at the compound was uploaded a second time, but instead with The Prodigy‘s ‘Firestarter‘ dubbed over the top.
