Beau Ryan Says Visiting Dying Fan Was The Most Important Thing He’s Done

Beau Ryan has broken his silence on his effort last week to visit a dying fan at her bedside in hospital, saying that it was the most important thing he has ever done.

Ryan visited Kia Lettice, 22, after a friend pleaded for him to do so, as doctors reported she only had four hours to live.
Speaking to 2GB on why he decided to travel to Lettice’s bedside, Ryan says the experience was “humbling”:

We’ve all had ups and downs, but at the end of the day if someone is in a time of need and you’re in a position to help them, that’s what we do. It’s really overwhelming, but just to hold her hand and be there, it was something that I’m very proud of to be a part of and I’d do again. Its something anyone in the same position would do.

The NRL Footy Show host described the difficulty of coming face-to-face with the grief of Lettice’s family.

“They were obviously bracing to lose her and that shocked me,” he said. “That rattled me because I’ve got a little girl myself and she means the world to me. Along with my wife.”

“These people are from Narrabri, blue-collar, salt of the earth people, their family foster out eight other kids as well.”
He encouraged anyone to do what they can to support children’s hospitals:

All I want to say is that anyone that anything they can offer, be it emotional support or financial, to visit the Royal Children’s Hospital or Ronald McDonald House and give what you can. Because there’s another 100 rooms and families like this.

Though doctors had predicted Lettice would only live four hours on Tuesday, she is currently in a stable condition in Randwick Hospital‘s palliative care unit.
