Art Exhibitions & Shows Opening This Week


Happy new year, art fans. Firstly, our thoughts and wishes of best luck goes out to the beautiful Gallery Of Modern Art, Queensland Art Gallery, Jan Manton Gallery, Judith Wright Centre, Accidentally Annie Space, Doggett St Gallery, Edwina Corlette Gallery, Nine Lives, Jugglers Art Space and all the galleries or collectives in Brisbane and around Queensland which have been forced to shut their doors because of rising flood waters. Elsewhere the show must go on and we are psyched about the year ahead: some big exhibitions such as Gustave Moreau and the Eternal Feminine at Melbourne’s NGV and Art, Love and Life: Ethel Carrick and E Phillips Fox which is bound to be fabulous opens at QAG (river levels permitting) in April. Here’s the wrap of what’s opening around Australia this week…

What Crazy. The ABSOLUT exhibition will be the final installment of the ABSOLUT Stairwell Gallery project at The Sugarmill stairwell in Sydney. The final exhibition will feature every artist that has participated in this unique project. Each artist has been given the simple brief – to develop a piece of art that features the ABSOLUT bottle.

Who WILL STOKER & MATT DOUST
What Reins is a multi-media collaboration between artist Matt Doust and musician Will Stoker, a personal dialogue to be presented within the walls of Free Range gallery. Through the submergence of painting, music, video projection and performance, Doust and Stoker aim to thematically explore/ highlight the concept of control as practiced/applied to dichotomous impulses within the human mind. Ergo, I really wish I was in Perth this week.

Who DREW FUNK v BRADDOCK: SECRET WARS (MELBOURNE)
