Alan Joyce To Press Charges Against The Pie-Thrower, Whose Wife Is Very Mad

Qantas CEO Alan Joyce has announced he’s pressing charges against the man who pied him in the corker yesterday.

Addressing media at Parliament House, Joyce said that he did not believe the man to be remorseful. “I believe he sent me an email … and I believe there has been an apology coming in but I’m not sure there’s any regret at the issue that has occurred,” he said.

The man has been identified as Tony Overheu, a 67-year-old former farmer who was protesting corporate involvement in LGBTQIA rights by smashing a cream pie in another man’s face.

“Qantas is insulting many staff and passengers with their boarding pass propaganda,” he told 6PR‘s breakfast show earlier today. “CEO’s need to respect Australia is a democracy where backdoor attempts to subvert the clear wishes of the overwhelming majority will cost companies bottom lines.”

Joyce, however, has assured people that Qantas’ support for marriage equality in Australia ain’t going anywhere anytime soon, and he will absolutely be pressing assault charges.

“The police are continuing their investigation and my intention is to send a message that this type of behaviour isn’t acceptable and that I will have every intention of pressing charges,” he said.

“I have every intention to continue to be vocal on those social and community issues. It’s important for our shareholders, our employees, and our customers. It’s called good corporate social responsibility. I’m a big believer in the great Australian expression a fair government it’s all about giving people equality.”

Meanwhile, Overheu’s wife is rightly ticked off at her dumb husband’s move. Apparently, he had no idea that walking into a room of 500 people and shoving a delicious pastry (a $25.95 lemon meringue cake, if you were wondering) would result in charges.

“I had naively believed I could walk out the same way I came, but I was apprehended and now it’s a matter for the state police and assault,” he said.

“My family is outraged, my wife is in uproar. I sent a letter this morning to Mr Joyce, the hotel and Curtain University apologising unreservedly for any insult or injury due to my actions.”

He also said that one of his daughters posted a message on social media supporting same-sex marriage, but which said “I love my idiot dad”.

Awwww….?
