That Very Odd, Very Cranky Qantas Pie-Thrower Linked To Religious Groups

The insanely dour man who yesterday smacked Qantas CEO Alan Joyce square in the face with a cream pie has been identified as a Perth local with deep ties to several religious organisations.

The Australian reports Tony Overheu is responsible for the pastry-based incident, which took place during a business breakfast. Overheu serves as a director in the Full Gospel Business Men’s Fellowship International, and is a senior member of a Church of Christ branch.

While no motive for the incident has been confirmed, Overheu’s bizarre action took place amid sustained opposition to Qantas’ support of marriage equality.
After the incident, Joyce sidestepped any potential reasoning behind the attack, saying “we’re going into pure speculation here and I think the police need to investigate this.

“This is in the hands of police and we should let them do their investigation.’’
Overheu was charged with providing false information to police after the stunt. Joyce indicated that he intends to press further charges, but it’s not yet known if he’s provided any more information to police.
