11 You Beaut Events That Sum Up Everything Ripper About An Aussie Summer

PEDESTRIAN.TV have teamed up with Summer Bright Lager to help y’all #DiveintoSummer, because we all know a frosty frothy is the perfect end to an A+ Summer’s day. Get around ’em on FB HERE

Oh summer, if you were a person I’d sit on you and rotate.

You just know how to bring the goods, you know? From heating things up to pumping out the late nights, you’re definitely the one for me. You also keep me v. busy with your overflowing calendar of social events and for that I think we’ll never grow apart.

I mean, just look what you’ve got in store for me in 2017, all around our land that’s girt by sea:

NEW SOUTH WALES

MARDI GRAS
February 17 – March 5.
Sydney.

Photo: Facebook / Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras.

Two jam-packed weeks of events incl. pool parties, parades + more around Sydney in celebration of the LGBTQIA community. See the full schedule here.

TROPFEST
February 11.
Parramatta Park, Sydney.

Photo: Facebook / Tropfest.

It’s definitely had a hard run over the past couple of years (was canned, rebirthed and had a venue change) but I’ll be damned if the whole concept of the short-film competition isn’t one of the greatest experiences goin’. See more info here.

SYDNEY FESTIVAL

January 7-29.
Sydney.

Photo: Facebook / Sydney Festival.

A festival to please literally everyone, with music, theatre, dance, opera, visual arts, ideas (+a friggin’ glitter dance party, pictured above) and more taking over Sydney’s city for a fortnight. A bunch of it is free too, so get that around ya. More info here.

VICTORIA

MIDSUMMA FESTIVAL
January 15 – February 5.
Melbourne & Regional Victoria.

Melbourne’s annual queer celebration Midsumma spans over 85 Melbourne and Regional Victoria venues over three weeks, incl. visual art, theatre, spoken word, cabaret, film, live music, parties, sport, social events and public forums. If you’re from Melbourne you were probably already going, but think of this as a friendly reminder.

ST KILDA FESTIVAL
February 12.
St Kilda Beach.

Held on the second Sunday every February, St Kilda Festival is a goodun for the skint music lover with over 40K attendees flocking to see a bunch of acts across multiple stages. It’s Australia’s biggest free celebration and you don’t come past those every day. More info here.

QUEENSLAND

BRISBANE COMEDY FESTIVAL
February 26 – March 28.
Brisbane Powerhouse.

This one just scrapes through as it kicks off in the final days of summer, but it’s definitely worth an inclusion. Who doesn’t love / need a good laugh? More info here.

SOUTH AUSTRALIA

ADELAIDE FRINGE FEST
February 17 – March 19.
Adelaide.

Photo: Facebook / Adelaide Fringe.

If you like stumbling upon unexpected shit then this is the one for you. The event blankets Adelaide in everything from theatre to circus and bloody puppets, bursting from the seams with all things creativity. More info here.

WESTERN AUSTRALIA

FRINGE WORLD FESTIVAL
January 20 – February 19.
Perth.

Photo: Fringeworld.com

Do you like a whole lot of everything? Good, because that’s what you’ll get at Perth’s Fringe World. P.TV’s Sean Dillon says, “Even I’ve gone to see a show there and I’m not an ‘activities’ kinda dewd.” Can confirm the latter. More info here

TASMANIA

MONA FOMA
January 18-22.
Hobart.

Photo: Facebook / Mona Foma.

Curated by Violent Femmes‘ Brian Ritchie, Mona Foma is a pretty big deal in Tassie. It’s a mixed lolly bag with everything from post-punk to avante garde inflatables, installations and performance art. Sounds weird in the best kind of way imo. More info here.

AUSTRALIAN CAPITAL TERRITORY

BEN & JERRY’S OUTDOOR CINEMA
January 12 – February 19.
Partrick White Lawns, Canberra.

Photo: Facebook / Canberra Openair Cinema.

Seems a bit dumb to watch a movie indoors when it’s hot outside, really. But if you’re hung or just looking for something chill to do, the outdoor cinema means you can get the best of both worlds. Even if you don’t wanna watch a flick you can get around the live music and ice cream instead, which is free on Sundays btw. More info and session times here.

NORTHERN TERRITORY

FIELD OF LIGHT ULURU
Until March 31 2018.
Uluru.

Photo: Uluru.com.

We’re all for eye stim, and although Uluru will give you that anyway, Field of Light is a different way to see the indigenous landmark at night. The installation by international artist Bruce Munro includes 50K solar-powered glass spheres blooming with light after the sun sets and it’s bloody beaut. More info here.

So much to do, so little time and all that crap.

If you’ve got a spare night in there, be sure to hit up our summer party with Summer Bright Lager on January 25 at Bucketlist Bondi. It’s gonna be a doozy. Enter for tix below.
