Watch The Smith Street Band Call Out An Aggressive Security Guard Mid-Song

If you’ve ever been to a Smith Street Band show, be it back in the day at The Arthouse where frontman Wil Wagner‘s shoulder was in a sling after cracking it during a footy game, or more recently when they’ve been packing out huge venues across the country, you’ll know that things can get a bit hectic.

And it’s that energy that’s driven the band to develop a heightened sense for crowd safety; they’re not keen on dickheads being at their shows, be they members of the crowd, or security guards working the venues.
The great thing about this is that they’re certainly not afraid to call out aggressive morons who want to act like apes during their shows. And this was no more prevalent than during their raucous set at a sold-out Metro Theatre in Sydney this past Friday.
In the middle of ripping through the band’s crowd pleasing barnburner “Young Drunk” Wagner spotted a security guard manhandling a crowd surfer and stopped the song dead in its tracks to remonstrate. We managed to get footage of the rant, which really only serves to cement Wil and the band’s status as great humans and genuine legends.

The incident even happened to occur a mere few moments after Wil apparently praised the work of security guards that night, if you can believe that.
Bottom line here is that if you’re planning on going to a Smith Street Band show, make sure you have a good time and remember to never be a goalie: As long as other people’s actions aren’t hurting anyone, either assist, or get out of the way.
