triple j has announced the winner of the Australian Album of the Year at the radio station’s annual J Awards ceremony and, quite deservedly, the honour has been bestowed upon the psych-lords of WA Tame Impala for their extraordinary sophomore record Lonerism, released in October via Modular Records.
The album was selected “for being an outstanding musical work of art; for its creativity, musicianship and its contribution to Australian music” and took the title out of a field including:
Alpine – A Is For Alpine
Hermitude – HyperParadise
Ball Park Music – Museum
The Rubens – The Rubens
Bertie Blackman – Pope Innocent X
Regular John – Strange Flowers
Oh Mercy – Deep Heat
Urthboy – Smokey’s Haunt
The Presets – Pacifica
Sarah Blasko – I Awake
Parkway Drive – Atlas
Congratulations Tame Impala. Now let’s all listen to “Feels Like We Only Go Backwards” off the album and feel like we want to fuck the world with chill vibes.
