Fresh from collecting their second J-Award, Tame Impala have taken out the Album of the Year as voted by triple j listeners for their sophomore album, Lonerism. Snubbing their noses at the notion of the ‘difficult second album‘, the band has enjoyed widespread critical acclaim which is quickly translating into a wider appeal. Previous winners include Gotye – Making Mirrors, Arcade Fire – The Suburbs, and Phoenix – Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix.
3. The Rubens – The Rubens
As with previous years, triple j honcho Richard Kingsmill has published his list. Unlike previous years, he seems to agree with his audience with Frank Ocean pipping Tame Impala for Kingsmill’s album of the year. Break-out efforts from alt-J and Flume along with Ball Park Music’s sophomore release, Museum, also feature on both lists.
