‘The Voice’ Singer Christina Grimmie Dies After Shooting At US Concert

Singer Christina Grimmie has died after being shot by a concert-goer following a performance in Orlando, Florida.

She was 22.

CNN reports the former US The Voice contestant and YouTube star was shot during an autograph signing session at The Plaza Live theatre.

A man wielding two firearms approached the singer before opening fire. One of Grimmie’s brothers was able to bring him to the ground, before the attacker fatally shot himself.

Grimmie was taken to hospital in a critical condition, but died shortly afterwards.

Grimmie’s publicist Heather Ward confirmed the news, along with the Orlando Police Department.

Ward said it’s currently unclear how the gunman was able to enter the venue with two guns on his person.

The shooter’s identity hasn’t been revealed, nor have any possible motives for the killing.

Grimmie rose to prominence through her YouTube channel, which currently boasts over three million subscribers. She also appeared on Season 6 of The Voice in 2014, where she eventually reached third place.

Hours before the shooting, she posted a video asking nearby fans to come and support the show.

Colleagues and musicians have expressed their grief over Grimmie’s pointless death.

Utterly senseless. RIP.
