Regurgitator Becomes Latest Band To Bail On Hugely Controversial ANU Gig

In an update to a story we’ve been covering all day, headline act Regurgitator have announced their withdrawal from the Australian National University Bar‘s final show before the venue shuts down.

The gig has been the subject of intense debate and backlash online throughout the course of the day after the gig’s promotor responded arrogantly and poorly to a calmly-asked question about why the show’s 11-band lineup featured zero female or non-binary performers.
Promotor Gary Peadon, who has been doggedly defending both the gig and his own wilful ignorance instead of asking why someone might ask that question, appeared on ABC radio earlier in the day, asserting that he’d “never heard of non-binary before,” and that he has “better things to do” that answer criticism about promoting a male-dominated lineup.

Regurgitator, who were advertised as the headliners, were made aware of the issue through their Facebook page, and have since announced that they will not be taking part in the gig.

Fellow act Slow Turismo have also made statements to the media indicating they intend to withdraw from the bill.

The gig, for the time being, is still scheduled to take place on Wednesday June 17.
