People Are Having A Big Ol’ Sook Over Beyoncé’s 1st Entry In The Hottest 100

You might have been of the mistaken apprehension that the triple j Hottest 100 was a music poll through which punters – largely aged between 18 – 25 – vote for their favourite songs of the previous year.

Wrong. You could not be more wrong. The Hottest 100 is actually a mechanism through which people prosecute their baffling musical grievances and create their own gerrymandered definition of what constitutes deserving ‘alternative music’.
Beyoncé – who put out a cracker of an album in Lemonade this year – was destined to make her first appearance on the Hottest 100. She’s likely going to have a couple more entries this arvo, but Hold Up came in at #66.

Aaaand cue people being mad as hell. This isn’t right! This isn’t real music! Kanye is fine, but Lemonade is not!

Also this bloke who reckons Beyoncé hitting the Hottest 100 is somehow the result of the same chain of events that put Trump into the presidency, which I guess is a take:

Things on Facebook are just as confronting. I repeat: the situation on Facebook has become dangerous and unsustainable.
Y’know guys, Kanye made it to number 13 with Gold Digger back in 2005. That was 12 years ago.
Ahh well. Lets see what the second half brings.
