Over 100 People Charged On Last Day Of Sydney Stereosonic

As the dust settles on both Sydney and Claremont Showgrounds, punters in both Sydney and Perth are nursing similar dance hangovers and as Haruki Murakami once said, “We’re both looking at the same moon, in the same world. We’re connected
to reality by the same line. All I have to do is quietly draw it
towards me.” As the cross-country bonds continue to deepen, the NSW Police have issued a press release detailing the aftermath of the event…

Operation Commander, Superintendent David Eardley did say that he was happy with the majority of festival-goers and the good behaviour everyone displayed, but was not angry but disappointed in some; namely the 100 people they charged with possession/supply of illegal substances.

An artist’s impression.

In a statement he said: “While most revellers enjoyed the festival safely, the number of people caught with illegal drugs or alcohol was definitely of concern…Police will continue to target people over drug possession as these substances are illegal, they pose very serious health risks and in some instances they can prove lethal.

He went on to say that “Overall the high-visibility police operation yielded some excellent results in targeting anti-social behaviour as well as drug and alcohol related offences at both public transport hubs and at the venue itself.” On the second day of the festival police searched 641 people, with 108 of that number charged with possession, six charged with supply and another six due to ‘alcohol related offences’.

He signed off with a word on their presence at festivals yet to come, saying “We will continue to run this type of operation in the future to ensure revellers can attend festivals and enjoy themselves in a safe environment.” No word from the Western Australia Police.
