One Woman Dies, Dozens Charged With Drug Offences At Sydney Stereosonic

A 25-year-old woman has died, a 22-year-old woman is in hospital fighting for her life, and 69 people have been charged with drug-related offences following yesterday’s Stereosonic festival at Sydney Olympic Park.
The 25-year-old woman was “taken ill” at the festival, and taken to Concord Hospital, where she later died. Police are preparing a report for the coroner outlining the circumstances of her death.
Per NSW Police reports, another woman, aged 22, was taken to Westmead Hospital in serious condition after the event, and has been placed in an induced coma.
This year’s Sydney Stereosonic was the target of a major police operation, involving officers from the South West Metropolitan Region, the Dog Unit, Mounted Unit, Public Order and Riot Squad, Traffic and Highway Patrol, and Police Transport Command.
Investigations continue, but so far, police say that 69 people have been charged with drug supply and possession offences, and a further 23 people issued cannabis cautions.
Assistant police commissioner Frank Mennelli, the officer in charge of the operation, said:
“The police operation is about minimising harm and providing a safe and secure environment for revellers to have a good time  … This number is alarming and disappointing, especially after we warned revellers about the dangers of drug use.”
