Oliver Tank’s “Dreams” Track By Track

We premiered slow burner “The Last Time” a few week back and now Oliver Tank talks us through the debut EP from whence it came, Dreams, available now for a price of your choosing via Yes Please Records. What are you waiting for?

I put a lot of work into my debut EP, Dreams. I really wanted to create a truly personal, emotional and original collection of songs, that compliment each other and work together as one cohesive body of work. To fully understand and appreciate the songs, they should be listened to as one. I hope you enjoy the EP and I’d like to thank all my friends and family, as well as everyone who’s ever supported me.

“Up All Night” – This one’s similar to ‘Last Night I Heard Everything in Slow Motion’ in that I wanted to combine really deep bass with an unusual instrument. One that you don’t usually see present in electronic music, I also added some really lush sounding piano. I’ve always had a deep affection for harmonies and I use them a lot on this EP, particularly in this song. It deals with the same themes as ‘Last Night I Heard Everything in Slow Motion’, but gives a deeper insight into that story. ‘Up All Night’ is one of my faviroute tracks on the EP, I recommend listening to it really loud, late at night.

“Embrace” – A good friend of mine, Fawn Myers sang on this track. I really love the beautiful harmonies our voices make together. I was listening to a lot of Massive Attack when I was writing this one and I feel like it definitely had a big influence on the sound. Embrace really grows into a reverb heavy, harmony driven ballad. I love how Fawn’s voice really compliments the track, I think it’s a really special song.

“Last Night I Heard Everything in Slow Motion” – This one deals with being unsure about something to the extent that it plagues you. Similar to ‘Up All Night’, I really wanted to combine an array of instrumentation you don’t usually see in electronic music. I couldn’t be happier with the way ‘Last Night I Heard Everything in Slow Motion’ turned out. It’s a really special song to me and I love the way it builds and swells into something quite epic.

“I Love You” – ‘I Love You’ is completely self explanatory. I’ve received an overwhelming amount of support as an artist starting out. So the song itself is an ode to all those people that have believed in me and been supportive…thank you.

“The Last Time” – ‘The Last Time’ refers to when you’re with someone you really care about, but it all seems to fall apart. You replay those last moments over and over again in your head, it consumes you. Although at the same time it’s quite liberating and inspiring. I really love the instrumentation on this song and the way it gradually builds. Its definitely another one of my favourites on the EP.

“Grain of Sand” – This is another track my friend Fawn Myers sang on. I wrote ‘Grain of Sand’ a long time ago and originally played it on guitar. I loved the chord progression and decided to modernize it to suit my sound. I’m really happy with the way the track turned out, its a real slow burner, that builds into something quite epic and beautiful.

So that’s my debut EP ‘Dreams’ I hope you like it…
