Offline And Off Topic

Someone at Rolling Stone dropped the ball because the website is currently offline.

Either the web developer is about to get shit canned, or RS is taking the crazy approach to selling more print mags.

[UPDATE: It’s now back online but was down for a decent stint – several hours.]

Once upon a time (as in, during the Seventies and Eighties) Rolling Stone were considered the go-to rag for cutting edge rock ‘n’ roll journalism, but now you’re more likely to find the likes of Leighton Meester and Blake Lively featured on the cover than an interesting new musician or band. That’s not to say that Gossip Girl isn’t awesome – every word Chuck Bass says is nothing short of creepy/handsome genius; but is it rock and roll[ing Stone]?

And there’s absolutely no denying that everything within the pop cultural landscape can and does influence popular music, but over the last ten years RS and editor-in-chief Jann Wenner have dedicated a huge number of covers and multi-page features to actors, politicians and other celebrities and have lost sight of the main reason (though not the sole reason) why it exists in the first place: to provide people with the latest information and commentary on the world of music.

Anyway, go forth enterprising young individuals and purchase the www.rollingstone.com domain name while it’s up for grabs, and give us an all-new ‘music bible’ that manages to actually deliver on its promise.
