Midnight Oil Tour In Doubt After Guitarist Rips His Hamstring To Shreds

The on-going Dad bonanza that is Midnight Oil‘s ‘The Great Circle‘ world tour is in serious jeopardy after lead guitarist Jim Moginie, in technical terms, tore the living shit out of his hamstring while performing on-stage in Melbourne last night.

Moginie’s injury occurred during the band’s show at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl in Melbourne – their second Melbourne performance – during the encore set.

Footage of the injury shows Moginie slipping and falling mid-song, with singer Peter Garrett rushing over to assist Moginie back to his feet. After gamely finishing the song Moginie was helped off stage for assessment, forcing the band to cut their set slightly short.

After a delay, the group returned to the stage for an abbreviated end to the set, performing an acoustic version of show-closer One Country.

In a statement posted to their Facebook this morning, Midnight Oil confirmed Moginie had ripped his hamstring a new one and was awaiting a surgical consultation today.

The injury puts the remaining four dates on the band’s world tour in severe doubt. The group was scheduled to perform at the Domain in Sydney this coming Saturday, before a show in Wollongong on Monday, a return to Melbourne the following Wednesday, before the near-seven month world tour wrapped up back in Sydney on Friday, November 17th.

The band has been in piping hot form on the tour thus far (believe me) but it remains to be seen if Moginie will be healthy enough to close out the run, or – if he’s not – whether the shows will be postponed or a replacement fielded.
