The Legendary Midnight Oil Announce Their First World Tour In 15 Years

CALL YOUR DAD IMMEDIATELY. Australia’s fiercest, most vital, most uncompromising rock band is hitting the road in 2017 for the first time in over 15 years.
The legendary Midnight Oil today lifted the lid on the Great Circle World Tour, which fittingly is set to begin in the humble confines of a Sydney pub, before circling the globe where it will culminate where it began: with an extensive Australian tour.
The group, consisting of Peter Garrett, Rob Hirst, Jim Moginie, Martin Rotsey, and Bones Hillman, announced the tour while on-board a boat floating in Sydney harbour and, fittingly, after an extensive Welcome to Country and acknowledgement of the significance the site of the announcement carries for the traditional Indigenous owners of the area.
The Great Circle tour – their first since the Capricornia tour in 2002 – will begin in April in what’s likely to be a secret gig at an unnamed Sydney pub, before it takes in South America, the US and Canada, Europe and the UK, New Zealand, before finally winding up with a full lap of Australia in October and November.
The final show of the tour sees the Oils heading back to Sydney and the famous Domain on November 11th, where support acts John Butler Trio and A.B. Original will open proceedings.
Tickets for the Australian leg go on-sale to the general public on February 27th, with pre-sales for those on the Midnight Oil mailing list (which you can sign up for right sodding now) hitting the web a few days earlier on the 23rd.
As for how the band is feeling, Garrett gave a confident smirk and remarked, “Never felt better. Fresher. Nastier. Sweeter. More energetic.”
If that don’t put a fire under your arse to get to the shows, nothing will.
