Midnight Oil Will Finish Their AUS Tour Despite Guitarist’s Horrible Injury

Well here’s some good news: After yesterday’s revelation that guitarist Jim Moginie had, in technical terms, ripped the absolute living piss out of his hamstring, Midnight Oil has confirmed that they will be completing the tour as scheduled despite the injury.

Moginie slipped and fell while rocking the hell out on-stage at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl in Melbourne on Wednesday night, forcing the band to bring their planned set to an abrupt end with a significantly shortened encore.

There was some initial doubt as to if Moginie would be able to fulfil his duties due to the injury, which saw him helped from the stage. But the band has confirmed that he will be able to take the stage, albeit in a seat, for their upcoming performance at Sydney’s Domain this Saturday.

The band confirmed that Moginie had suffered a freakin’ excruciating-sounding hamstring avulsion, an injury in which the hamstring tendon completely detaches from the bone. Excuse me one second.

The injury usually requires surgery to rectify, but Moginie will battle through it to complete the tour.

The group has four dates remaining on their Great Circle world tour, starting in the Domain tomorrow, then visiting Wollongong, Melbourne, before the 7-month tour wraps up back in Sydney at the Domain on Friday, November 17th.

Very limited tickets for all four remaining shows are still available from Midnight Oil’s official website.
