Kirin J Callinan To Plead Guilty In NSW Court Over Flashing Charges

UPDATE: After pleading guilty, Kirin J Callinan’s charges have been dropped on condition of a 12 month good behaviour bond.

Kirin J Callinan is expected to plead guilty today in Sydney court over charges of wilful and obscene exposure at last year’s ARIAs red carpet.

The Sydney muso has arrived at Downing Centre Local Court for his trial, with the ABC reporting that he arrived an hour late. Before he arrived, his lawyer confirmed to the courts that Kirin would plead guilty.

Under New South Wales law, he is potentially subject to a $1,100 fine or a six-month prison sentence.

In case you’re blanking, Kirin faced criticism within the media and online for the incident, where he allegedly lifted his kilt and flashed those behind the red carpet barricade. It was filmed and photographed, circulating online before he was charged by NSW Police earlier this month.

Recently, Kirin was quietly removed from the 2018 Laneway Festival lineup.

It occurred after fellow Laneway performer and Brisbane rapper Miss Blanks spoke to the organisers about her concerns regarding Kirin’s behaviour across his career. She elaborated to Triple J’s Hack that those concerns centred around a photoshoot close to blackface and an incident in 2013 where Kirin staged an epileptic fit in the audience of a performance.
