Celebrity interviewing is a rough gig, especially if your energy level is at around a nine and theirs is around a three-and-a-half, something that former Richmond star Matthew Richardson learned when someone shoved a microphone into his hand before the AFL Grand Final and told him to interview The Killers.
Tiny men Brandon Flowers and Ronnie Vanucci appeared to be slightly spooked by the 6’5 behemoth looming over them, staring up at him in fear and awe as he welcomed them back to our wide, brown land and congratulated them on their recent number one album.
Things somehow took an even more awkward turn when Richardson attempted to engage the lads on the subject of footy. “I don’t even know the teams that are playing. I know there’s the Crows?” said Vanucci as Flowers rubbed his hands together nervously and pondered his exit strategy.
“Do you know anything about the game, Brandon? Did you check it out online?” Richardson gamely inquired. “We’ve learned a little bit, but I am not the person to ask,” the singer replied.
“I like that jacket too Brandon,” said Richarson, still trying to find some rapport with the band as the interview mercifully wrapped up. “Thanks man,” said a nervous Brandon. Ladies and gentlemen, The Killers:
