Jet Breaks Up

Melbourne rock band Jet, one of Australia’s most successful rock outfits of the last decade, have called it quits.

The band announced the split via their Facebook page, saying: After many successful years of writing, recording and touring we wish to announce our discontinuation as a group. From the many pubs, theatres, stadiums and festivals all across the world it was the fans that made our amazing story possible and we wish to thank them all. Thank you, and goodnight.

Best known for Iggy indebted hit, “Are You Gonna Be My Girl”, which soundtracked a worldwide Apple campaign and had mutton-sporting twenty-somethings investigating boot cut as a viable denim option, Jet released three albums and two EPs over their eleven year career including debut album Get Born which sold more than 3.5 million copies worldwide. The band’s later albums would be panned for being too derivative of their influences (The Rolling Stones, The Beatles), including a wordless Pitchfork review which featured a monkey urinating into its own mouth.
