No big deal but NSW just won State of Origin II against Queensland 18-14 – their first State of Origin win since 2014. The Blues take the series 2-0 after a bloody intense match which saw NSW claw their way back into the game after being 10 points down to the Maroons in the first 20 minutes. Then, the team were reduced to 12 men in the final 15 minutes of the match but still pulled through.
Hear the roar:
Do you reckon those Blues are happy about it? #Origin

Safe to say that fans of the mighty Blues are bloody losing it on Twitter:

The win totally had nothing to do with the pre-game entertainment. Tonight, before NSW and Queensland took to the field, Aussie rock-band Jet performed. Judging from people’s reaction on Twitter, the band were a welcome hit although a whole bunch of viewers were having a giggle because tonight they were reminded that Jet are still in fact, an active band.
A main reaction to the band’s performance:
Used to be obsessed with Jet when I was like 14, was the first concert I ever went to. This is trippy #origin

If you didn’t tune into the pre-game set, these are the blokes who gifted us hits including Are You Gonna Be My Girl and Look What You’ve Done. They performed the former tonight before Nine went to commercials but according to the tweets, they performed some new material, too.
Warning: You’re about to feel real old ‘cos those songs came out in 2003 – 15 years ago – FIFTEEN.
A quick squiz at the internet says the band broke up back in 2012 before reforming in 2016. They’ve yet to put out a new album but they are currently on tour.
So then a heap of Queenslanders (and allies) decided to make the same joke and delightfully point out that the last time the Blues were really good was the early 00s.
This song was No.1 when @NSWRL were dominating #Origin wasn’t it? #Jet

The NRL throwing back to the last time Smith, Cronk and Thurston didn’t play by using a band who had a number one in that same year. #origin #awhileago

This Jet song was topping the charts the last time NSW won more than 1 #Origin in a row. #QLDER #UpTheBlues

Wait, which year is it again? Didn’t we already win #Origin when this song was a hit? #Queenslander

Although, some fans pointed out it could be a good omen:
Ironically the pre game entertainment takes us back to an era when NSW were successful. Party like it’s 2004!! #origin #uptheblues #nrl
— Luke (@lukej83) June 24, 2018
And good omen it bloody was.
Oh yeah, #Throwback! 🤟 #Origin

As for the aforementioned tour, Jet are about to head off to England after finishing off the Aussie league of their Get Re-Born tour. They’ll be off to Ireland, afterwards. The band announced their 15th anniversary tour back in March of this year.
