HELLO EUROPE: Jess Mauboy Is Australia’s Rep For Eurovision 2018

Jessica Mauboy is your official Australian entrant for the glittering, glamorous, glorious Eurovision Song Contest in 2018.

A short time ago, local broadcaster SBS revealed that Mauboy will serve as our performer for our fourth official tilt at European musical glory when the contest rolls through LisbonPortugal next May.

Those of you with sharply tuned Eurovision brains will know that this isn’t Mauboy’s first trip to the big European dance, however it will be her first official tilt in the contest itself.

Back in 2014 Mauboy appeared and performed at the contest as a special attraction interval act, representing Australia on the Eurovision stage for the first time and providing the pathway for our very-much-not-in-Europe nation to officially enter the contest a year later.

Australia has performed ably at Eurovision in the three tilts we’ve had at the crown, with Guy Sebastian achieving a fifth place finish in 2015, Dami Im being absolutely robbed of the title by finishing 2nd in 2016, and Isaiah Firebrace maintaining our top ten average with a 9th place spot earlier this year.

In a statement issued to media after the announcement, Mauboy gushed at the opportunity to represent our country on one of the biggest and most widely-viewed platforms in the music biz.

Eurovision is a wonderfully joyous and unique event. It brings together over 40 diverse countries and cultures under one roof to unite us all in music. It shows how much the power of song can transcend differences.  I will sing my heart out for Australia, I’m so proud to be officially representing my country and a little bit nervous – mainly about the stress of the dress!

Newly installed hosts Joel Creasey and Myf Warhurst will return to helm the SBS broadcast of Eurovision 2018, which is set to take place from May 9th until the 13th next year.

Get keen, mates!
