Gotye Clarifies Those “Ultra Dry, Pretty Tuned, Cardboard” Glee Comments

After making comments to the effect that Glee’s cover of the little song that could, Somebody That I Used To Know, was “ultra dry, sounded pretty tuned and the rock has no real sense, like it’s playing to you from a cardboard box,” Gotye has seen fit to clarify (which could mean back-pedal) on those comments to an intimate crowd at a private performance in L.A.

Wally said that “the nature of using reverb and space in a recording can change your perception of how a sound appeals to you. This xylophone hook in my song — it’s kind of dinky not just in the cover version but the original song.

He added mockingly, and kind of confusingly, “that becomes the Glee cover I hated and Darren Criss is an asshole.” Darren Criss is a what now?

Gotye then proceeded to compliment Ryan Murphy’s tele musical theatre interpretation of the song, saying “I thought it was really clever to transpose the song to two guys… It was a great idea.” Incestual subtext aside, that is.

I don’t know if you guys have heard this song yet, but here it is. It’s kind of a big deal.

And this is what all the fuss is about. Dinky, right?
