Glee Will Cover Gotye’s ‘Somebody That I Used To Know’

This has been coming for a while now. It’s kind of inevitable that once you have the international success that Gotye‘s had with ‘Somebody That I Used To Know‘ that Ryan Murphy and his all-singing, all-dancing Gleeks will jump at the chance to weave a cover into one of their highly-disjointed episodes. Heck you don’t even need a tenuous narrative link anymore – you just need a No. 1 somewhere in the world. Or you need to die. Whichever comes first.

Following on from last week’s announcement that he would perform on SNL, Glee’s nod of approval joins an ever-growing list of accolades that includes (but is mos definitely not limited to) APRA nominations, performances for Jimmy Kimmel, a 2012 Coachella slot, a meme-tastic PS22 cover, ARIA and J Award wins, a UK and Hottest 100 number one, AplusK endorsements, Katy Perry’s kiss of approval, Gossip Girl nods and a film clip that boasts – at last count – 131,009,031 views. #GOTY2012. Sorry.

The cover will slip into an episode called ‘Big Brother’, with Bryll-creamed crooner Darren Criss appointing it “everyone’s favourite song”, with his on-screen brother and duet companion – guest star Matt Bomer – saying “I love everything about it so to get the chance to record it was so special.”

One YouTube commenter SxaXi did a pretty good job of capturing our excitment with her (?) palpable squeal: “Omg Gotye, YESSSSS!!!?” However, I think I prefer NeoKitty55’s take on the episode and our collective anticipation to see if justice is served to this bona fide anthem:

“I am like literally vibrating like a chiauaua (sp) I’m so excited. Apr. 10th can’t come sonner!!!?”
