The trailer for Empire of the Sun’s “We Are The People” sees Luke Steele and Nick Littlemore unabashedly embrace the “whacky guy” schtick they created for themselves when they named their band “Empire of the Sun”.
Shot on location in Mexico (following their jaunt in Shanghai) Nick Littlemore looks increasingly like Wayne Coyne’s crazy younger brother while Luke Steele channels a sexually ambiguous Egyptian Sun God. Yep, you read that correctly. Even crazier than Wayne Coyne and Egyptian Sun God. No hyperbole.
After watching this, I can’t help but wonder – does Steele nonchalantly throw on a kimono when he dashes out to get the morning paper? Does Littlemore have a “special” pirate jacket he reserves for special pirate occasions? Am I the only one who would find it kind of disappointing to see either of them grocery shopping in jeans and a t-shirt?
Anyway check out the trailer if you have a penchant for memento mori symbolism, sweeping emotion-filled hand gestures or feather headdresses. Pretty much the top three on my “favourite things” list.
