Ed Sheeran’s Playing In A Melbourne Laneway Today & It’s Already Chaos

Got big plans to hit up the area around ACMI or the Forum Theatre in Melbourne this afternoon? You might want to put them on ice. Some ginger chap named Ed Sheeran is whipping things into near-bedlam.

The English guitar bloke with the weirdly bung eye has been in town the past few nights playing a string of sold out shows at Etihad Stadium, but this morning he’s swapped the stifling conditions under the dome for the much smaller confines of a laneway.

Word got out earlier this morning that Sheeran will be doing an extremely “secret” performance in the iconic Hosier Lane – the epicentre of Melbourne’s most notable street art – with thousands of fans already packing both the laneway, and the area around it, well and truly out.

Sheeran will be playing just the one song – the tune Perfect from his Divide album released last year – with the whole thing set to be beamed back across the globe as part of the 2018 iHeartRadio Awards broadcast.

Fans were alerted to the performance and its strict set of rules via email communications blasted out a few hours ago.

Despite the “no phones” and “no photos” rules being in force, early rulebreakers managed to get out a few snaps of the absolute scenes inside the laneway itself, with a throng of punters eagerly awaiting Sheeran’s arrival.

Ed Sheeran’s sporting a total of five nominations at the iHeartRadio Awards, the ceremony for which is currently on-going.
