Carly Rae Jepsen Made A Whole Disco Album But “Probably” Won’t Release It

Carly Rae Jepsen

Back in May, Carly Rae Jepsen blew our bussies the hell up with her masterpiece Dedicated. While that album’s impact is still being felt, the singer revealed that she has a whole other album’s worth of new material just sitting there, but we’ll probably never get to hear it.

The Canadian pop princess spoke about the “secret” album at length in a recent interview with SF Weekly. Apparently, the collection was called Disco Sweat, and it was inspired by the sounds of the ’70s. Crushing our hearts, she added that it “will probably never be released, and shouldn’t.”

Why’s that? Carly Rae explained:

“I started off with a very strong intention to make an understated disco, living room dance party thing. I think that came from going to Sweden and really digging into some ABBA stuff. Then exploring the ’70s. I did ’80s last time, maybe I’ll do this. But it was never that simple.”

She went on to say that that some of the spirit of Disco Sweat lives on in Dedicated:

“I think there are songs on the new album that achieved kinda what I was envisaging, I think ‘Julian’ is a good example of that. I ended up getting out of a rut, and found some songs that were a little ’90s that I wanted to include, a little something that made more sense than this Disco Sweat, that will be buried in my backyard.”

So there you have it. Will Carly Rae Jepsen pull an Emotion: Side B and release some of these lost songs in future? We’ll wait to hear more about that as we patiently wait for that elusive Australian tour announcement.
