It’s been over three long years since Carly Rae Jepsen blessed the entire world with the Polaris Music Prize-shortlisted album E•MO•TION, but finally – at long-ass last – we’ve arrived at the promised land. An official, non B-side, bonafide new Carly Rae Jepsen single. Hell yes.
Jepsen began teasing the new material on Instagram and Twitter all through yesterday, before finally dropping the single and the accompanying music video in the middle of the night (AUS time).
Party For One is just about everything you’ve come to expect from pop’s most unlikely cult hero: An uproarious, dance floor-filling banger about moving on, loving yourself, and not giving a fuck. And also a little bit about jacking off too, probably.
The accompanying film clip is just as good, with a bunch of increasingly wonderful humans dancing alone in hotel rooms and generally enjoying the hell out of their own company. The kind of loose we all tend to get when left to our own devices in a fancy room we don’t have to clean ourselves.
It’s Friday. And this is the good shit, folks. Carly Rae is back.
There’s no word just yet on what the single will lead to, be it a new album (please) or any possible tour (PLEASE), but for now stay content in the knowledge that for every party occasion, Carly Rae Jepsen has your back.
