A Quick Fact Check Of The Kanye West Deposition

Kanye West, a man neither you nor I know personally but whose private litigation situation we are all invested in, sure does have a strong personal brand.

In this case, it was not his certain je ne sais quoi that has him in hot water but rather his strong personal hand, which he used to allegedly ‘beat’ a paparazzi. TMZ felt the need to leak parts of a transcript from his deposition, we count it as pop-culture news and here we all are.

At PEDESTRIAN.TV we are obviously vry srs jrnslsts, as evidenced by the fact that (  .  )(  .  ) 8======D~~~~yeeeeeeew~~~~~~~ , and as such have read through the scant bits and pieces trickling down to ascertain whether Mr. West-Kardashian told the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth (so help him Yeezus):

“I’m the smartest celebrity you’ve ever fucking dealt with. I’m not Britney Spears.”

Who are we to know which celebrities this lawyer has consulted with? We don’t know his life. Check yo’ assumptions, us.

Like it or not, Kanye West is an intelligent man. So, while we cannot know for sure whether he is the smartest celebrity Nate Goldberg [the lawyer representing the paparazzi dude] has ever fucking dealt with, he may very well be. He is also, we can now confirm, not Britney Spears. That checks out.

“I’m in the business of trying to make dope shit for the world. You’re in the business of representing scums and trying to make as much money as long as there’s this lapse in the law.”

Subjective. Depending on your feelings towards paparazzi and Kanye West’s creative output.

“I mean in the ’60s people used to hold up ‘Die N****r’ signs when my parents were in the sit-ins also.”

Sadly, true.

According to TMZ Goldberg then asked Kanye if he equates this struggle with celebrities today, to which he replies: “Yes, 100 … I equate it to discrimination. I equate it to inequalities.”

This seems like some Catherine Zeta-Jones-Entrapment bullshit right here. The dude is baiting him, trying to make him sound ridiculous because that is his job. Was he really equating the African-American Civil Rights Movement of 1954-1968 to celebrities being hounded by paparazzi? Or was it just a broader parallel being drawn between his struggles and inequalities in general?

“We, as group of minorities here in L.A., as celebrities have to ban together to influence guys like this — guys trying to take the picture, guys trying to get the big win, guys trying to get the check.”

Celebrities are a small group of people within a larger L.A. community, who differ from the main population and they should take a stand against unethical members of the paparazzi profession.

Goldberg asked where he lives, Kanye replies: “Earth.”

Correct.
