WATCH: Here’s How To Healthify Your Weekly Shop For Less Than $60

We get it: trying to lead a healthier life can feel like a massive drainer. Maybe you think it’s too expensive, maybe you’re time-poor and take away seems like the easiest option, or maybe you just have no idea where to start on your quest for supreme health? Pedestrian.tv have teamed up with the folk at NSW Health to give you,  our loyal readers , some cheeky tips and/or tricks on how to make ‘healthy’ the new norm, particularly when you’re on a shoestring budget.

Let’s just cut straight to it: more than half of the adult population in NSW are overweight or obese.
This ain’t good. That’s a fairly large chunk of us, and it’s the root of a ton of other problems too, like heart disease, stroke, cancer and type 2 diabetes. All up, it costs the NSW Government a whopping $19 billion a year.

With hundreds of contradictory messages flying about the place (just do a SkinnyMe Tea detox, or a three-day $50 cold-pressed juice cleanse, or eat nothing but baby food) it’s no wonder a lot of us have no idea where to start when it comes to making healthy changes.
But in most cases, being healthy doesn’t require a complete life overhaul. There are small adjustments you can make to your everyday routine that’ll increase your overall wellbeing. We fanged together this little vid to illustrate a few ways you can do it:
And here’s the full list of what we bought with our weekly $60 budget:
+ Hummus ()
+ Celery
+ Carrot
+ Corn Thins
+ Baby spinach
+ Avocado
+ Eggs
+ Cabbage
+ Tomatoes
+ Feta
+ Whole chicken
+ Multi-Grain bread
+ Brown rice
+ Some apples and bananas
+ Natural peanut butter

If you look at the above list of ingredients and have nay a clue what to do with them to make actual meals, have a gander at this comprehensive-as-hell list of meals.

And finally… 60% of our mortal bodies are made up of water, so aiming for the heralded 8 glasses per day is a pretty good idea. It can be hard when post-mix is calling thy name, but the benefits of drinking water far outweigh the few seconds of sweet deliciousness a sip of Mountain Dew affords. And it’s free, too!
