The Rock Announced His ‘Fast & Furious’ Spinoff & Tyrese Isn’t Invited

Why anyone would try and start a biff with The Rock is utterly beyond me, but yet that’s apparently a running theme for the other male co-stars of the Fast & Furious franchise.

The latest to try and come at The Great One is Tyrese, who you would absolutely be forgiven if you’d forgotten he was actually in the films to begin with.

A couple of days ago Tyrese took public umbrage with the man born Dwayne Johnson, accusing him of “making the Fast and Furious franchise about YOU” in an incendiary, extremely petty crack at the former WWE Champion that completely ignores the fact that the franchise was utterly dead in the water until The Rock arrived and helped breathe new life into things.

That “making the franchise about you” barb was in reference to the fact that Johnson, who is an insanely bankable movie star, would be getting a Fast & Furious spinoff movie for his character, Hobbs. This, in turn, delayed the ninth movie in the franchise by a full year.

The Rock officially announced the spin-off flick, which is also set to star Jason Statham, on Instagram earlier today. And in typical Rock fashion, he didn’t exactly shy away from the verbal barb.

Daddy’s gotta go back to work – Hobbs. Pumped to expand and build out the FAST & FURIOUS universe in a cool, exciting way with our [Seven Bucks Productions company], writer/producer Chris Morgan, producer Hiram Garcia, and lead producer and my bigger twin, Neil Moritz.

Thank you UNIVERSAL STUDIOS for being tremendous partners who see the big picture and for coming to us years ago with this spinoff idea. Huge shout to my brother, Jason Statham, for the trust and wanting to create and deliver something fresh and bad ass for the fans.

I have a tremendous amount of respect for this franchise that I’ve enjoyed droppin’ blood and sweat in over the years and my vision is to create greater opportunities for not only my fellow FF cast mates, but for other amazing actors as well who want to be a part of something new and cool. I want to use my spinoff platform to create new characters that fans will ultimately love to have fun with in multiple chapters and platforms. Film, TV, digital, virtual reality, etc. The more opportunities we can create the better for the fans. Smart business. Let’s have some FUN, and to quote Hobbs the boss: If you don’t like it, we’re happy to beat that ass like a Cherokee drum.

Candy asses need not apply.”

The spinoff is due for release in July 2019. Tyrese will probably stay furious until well after then.
