‘Party Of Five’ Is Being Rebooted ‘Cos Nothing 90s May RIP In Peace

Surely by now the 90s nostalgia mine must be running dry, with the reboots, remakes and redos seemingly reaching critical mass. But, no, there’s still more left in the ol’ girl, with today’s announcement that Party of Five is joining the throng of 90s shows returning to our screens.

Originally airing from 1994 – 2000, the soapy primetime drama starred Neve Campbell of Scream fame, a not-yet-Lost Matthew Fox and a pre-trying-to-make-fetch-happen Lacy Chabert, and followed the lives of the titular five siblings dealing with life and shit, after the tragic sudden loss of their parents in a car crash. (Fuck, that must have been a cheery opening episode).

Original series creators Chris Keyser and Amy Lippman are back for the reboot, which will instead shift from the super white bread OG family of the Salingers, to an first-gen immigrant Latino family dealing with complexities of current-day American life.

The original Party of Five was a much loved, Emmy award winning show which delved much deeper than most of your 90s fare, dealing with some seriously heavy shit like drug abuse, domestic violence and cancer, so expect the updated version not to pull any punches either.

Party of Five 2.0 is still in the early states, with no network or cast attached. We’ll keep you up to date when new info drops.

For now though, chuck on a flannel and dial it back to 1994, with the intro credits featuring all-time, alt-rock gem Closer to Free by Bodeans.
